This is the personal fonds of Enric Pey i Rifà (1929-2014), a musician and carpenter who played the clarinet and saxophone. He studied music in Granollers with Josep Maria Ruera, Víctor Pey, Aureli Font and Ramon Camps, as well as in the Higher Municipal Music Conservatory of Barcelona. He was a member of different orchestras and ensembles, like the Selecció, Camps y su Ritmo and the Conjunt Pleyel of Granollers; Els Verds of Mataró; La Lira of Sant Celoni; the Windsor and The Manhattan orchestras; and the City Band of Barcelona. He was sponsored by Stan Getz to join the Orchestra of the International Music Festival of Lucerne. This fonds is comprised of three separate collections of “authored manuscripts”, “anonymous manuscripts” and “printed items” by composers and arrangers working primarily in Catalonia between the first and last third of the 20th century. The “authored manuscripts” collection contains 47 works with repertoire for orchestra by Catalan authors (I. Albéniz, C. Casademont, E. Massana, M. Pastó, L. Pey, P. Rigau, J. M. Ruera, J. Vilà, M. Vilà, A. Vives), Spanish authors (T. Bretón, M. de Falla, G. Giménez, P. Luna, P. Sorozábal) and international authors (L. v. Beethoven, A. Borodin, C. Gounod, D. Heifetz, F. Lehár, D. Lovreglio, F. Pontillo, G. Puccini, G. Rossini, A. Thomas. P. I. Tchaikovsky), with arrangements by Ignasi Gironella, Enric Pey, Lluís Pey, Joan Vilà i Ayats and Joan Viñals for the orchestras Pla-Pey (1933-1936), Catalonia, Conjunt Pleyel (1962) and especially for the Orquestra Selecció (1944-1964) of Granollers. The “anonymous manuscripts” collection contains 6 works with repertoire for orchestra, dances and band marches, as well as a canticle, all dating from the last quarter of the 19th and the mid-20th century. The “printed music” collection contains 13 works from the vocal and instrumental repertoire written by G. Bécaud, A. Dvorak, R. Flames, G. Garvarentz, J. Lomax, V. Monti, L. Perosi, J. Ribera. W. Scott, R. Vila, J. Vilaseca and the female composer Cándida Pérez. |
